last night, around one am
I got a call from a certain “friend.” It went something like this (I was pretty much asleep):
Me: uhhh hi?
J: Hey, what’s up? Uh, it sounds a lot like I just woke you up…
Me: Oh, no, don’t stress it…what’s up?
J: Oh, I looked at the time, and I was like 11, that might be late for her, but…
Me: uh, I think it is later than 11, but uh…no worries, what are you up to?
J: Just drinking and wanted to see if you wanted to hang out and WAIT wait one sec oh my god just wait a second hahahahahahahah (random background noise and laughter)
Me: ??
J: There is a deer! A deer you can PET! I am PETTING A DEER RIGHT NOW!
Me: HAHAHHAHAHAWHAT?!
J: OH my god I am petting a deer! I am like, petting a DEER! TJ, you just startled the deer! You were walking too aggressively because you are Italian!
Me: HAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA
J might be more like a mortal enemy than a friend, but still, this was hilarious. Take note: if you are going to wake someone up with a call, try to make it this awesome.

Chronicling the life and times of a somewhat unwilling but dedicated teacher in a program that sends idealistic youth to teach in some very interesting yet needy schools. This is where I recount the absurdities of my teaching days, ponder pedagogy, and interweave images that are visually pleasing and tend to have nothing to do with teaching. Overall, I offer a collection of things I find awesome in both meanings of the word: the awesome that can uplift and give hope with the awesome that inspires me with fear and hopelessness for America's youth. And makes me laugh. A lot.
