psithinkyousareawesomez

Chronicling the life and times of a somewhat unwilling but dedicated teacher in a program that sends idealistic youth to teach in some very interesting yet needy schools. This is where I recount the absurdities of my teaching days, ponder pedagogy, and interweave images that are visually pleasing and tend to have nothing to do with teaching. Overall, I offer a collection of things I find awesome in both meanings of the word: the awesome that can uplift and give hope with the awesome that inspires me with fear and hopelessness for America's youth. And makes me laugh. A lot.

  • “John’s Trip”: This is approx where my Czech reading fluency is hitting currently. Though I can really read it fluently, and am diagramming sentences for the different noun cases.
My favorite part of the story thus far:
“You have to leave your stick at home! You aren’t allowed into the train with that. And on top of that, you would poke someone’s eye out!” said John’s mom in that kind of voice which he always listened to immediately. But going without the stick was, indeed, a bit disappointing. It seemed to him that without it, it would be as if he wasn’t even any kind of a boy. But what could be done? John had to come to terms with the fact that he would be travelling to his grandmother’s without his stick. Of course, even so, the trip would be worth it!

women’s studies dissertation? men and sticks: what it means to be a man across cultures. hehehe. oh, and added IMPORTANT SYMBOLISM - the other thing he really wants to bring with him is his big marble. sorry, this book actually really sweet and women’s studies can be very meaningful and men aren’t always all that silly…
